Date: 2022 The aim of this project is to empower people to build their own living spaces through participatory experiences. The project owners were trained on a collaborative construction site that was the result of one of our projects. The strength of these initiatives lies in the creation of social ties. Everyone offers their time and/or knowledge to others in exchange for fair barter in return. In this way, everyone is trained by a craftsman who supervises the volunteers, learning how to build with the aim of creating their own home and life. This experience reconnects with ancestral practices by reproducing techniques such as coating walls with earth. This dwelling was designed with the idea of using as many bio-sourced materials as possible. Apart from the concrete foundation to anchor it into the rock, the walls were assembled from wood/straw boxes in the workshop. The frame was built from solid wood, the floor insulation is a lime/cork screed, and earth plaster covers the interior surfaces. The heating source, a rocket stove, is located in the center of the building, close to an inertia wall, to conserve and diffuse heat long enough to achieve a phase shift. The large south-facing openings allow the slab to be heated in winter for the same purpose, and in summer the large eaves provide shade to protect against overheating. The living room has a double-height ceiling and, like the mezzanine, benefits from natural lighting provided by the shed roof created by the intersection of the roof slopes.
